About the Society

Honours and Awards

The Society honours outstanding scientists in a number of ways. The President's Medals are awarded annually to young scientists of outstanding merit, normally within 10 years of obtaining their PhD. A presentation of medals to winners by the Society's President takes place at the Annual Main Meeting.

The Society is delighted to announce the 2012 President's Medallists:

Animal Section: Dr. Graham Scott (McMaster University)

Cell Section: Dr. Ive de Smet (University of Nottingham)

Education and Public Affairs Section: Dr. Anne Osterrieder (Oxford Brookes University)

Plant Section:  Dr. Heather Whitney (Bristol University)

There is also the opportunity for postgraduates and postdocs in the first three years of their first postdoc to showcase their talents in the SEB Young Scientist Award Session, held each year at the Annual Main Meeting.  Winners of the 2011 YSAS award are as follows:

Animal Section:
Winner - Dr. Wilco Verberk (University Of Plymouth)
Runners Up - Ms. Erika Jennifer Eliason (University of British Columbia) and Mr. Alex Little (University of Sydney)

Plant Section:
Joint Winners - Ms. Meike de Wit (Utrecht University) and Miss Chloe Steels (University of Sheffield)
Runner up - Dr. Tzu Yin Liu (Academia Sinica)

Cell Section:
Winner - Ms. Yarina Sheremet (National Academy of Sciences Ukraine)
Runner up - Mr. Ting Lu (Oxford Brookes University)

A cash prize was awarded to each of the winners - this is Sponsored by Qubit Systems.


Student members, those still completing their PhD can enter a poster in the Irene Manton Poster award. There is a cash prize available to the best poster in each section (Animal, Plant and Cell).  The winners from SEB Glasgow 2011 are:
