The Society for Experimental Biology aims to promote and increase the influence of Experimental Biology within the scientific community and Society.

The SEB has a current worldwide membership of 1700 biological researchers, teachers and students. The Society is multidisciplinary and divided into Animal Biology, Plant Biology, Cell Biology and Education & Public Affairs sections. Our sections run a total of 23 different interest groups which you can become a member of.

The SEB offers a huge amount of support to young scientists in a variety of ways such as:

  • Travel grants worth up to £500 which make it possible to visit conferences and labs around the world.
  • Heavily subsidised registration fees for our conferences and symposia with savings of up to 80% of the non-member registration fee. For example, Glasgow 2011 Student Registration is only £80!
  • Careers and education advice services and workshops to help you succeed in whatever path you choose.
  • Society Awards: The SEB recognises outstanding young scientists through awards such as “The President’s Medal”, “Young Scientist of the Year Award” and the“Irene Manton Poster Prize” held at the Annual Main Meeting.

The SEB wants to support biologists throughout their careers and we offer the following benefits to our members:

  • Satellite funding to support meetings organised by SEB Members.
  • Subsidised registration fees for our conferences and symposia with typical savings of up to 50% from non-member registration fees.
  • Access to a worldwide forum of biologists which facilitates collaboration and discussion.
  • Reduced subscriptions to journals such as The Plant Journal (impact factor 6.946), Plant Biotechnology Journal (impact factor 4.732), and the Journal of Experimental Botany (impact factor 4.271).
  • Free colour in The Plant Journal!
  • Loyal member registration fee for our conferences: available to those who have been members continuously for 3 years or longer. Future SEB Meetings will take place in Glasgow - 2011, Salzburg - 2012, Valencia - 2013 and Manchester - 2014.
