How to get to Ponta Delgada, São Miguel island

The Azores Islands are a Portuguese archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean, located about 1,500 km (930 miles) from Lisbon and about 3,900 km (2,400 miles) from the east coast of North America.

Participants can fly directly to João Paulo II Airport (PDL) at Ponta Delgada city, S. Miguel Island. There are daily flights leaving from Lisbon and Porto to S.Miguel Island, operated by several companies, as Azores Airlines, TAP Portugal, Ryanair and EasyJet.

It is also possible to fly directly from Canada (e.g. Toronto) and USA (e.g. Oakland and Boston) to the Azores. There are also direct flights from other European cities (e.g. Munich, Frankfurt, Paris, London and Amsterdam) to the João Paulo II Airport (PDL). To get more information about the companies and routes to the Azores go to http://www.visitazores.com/en/getting-here/default.

Getting from the Airport to the City

The João Paulo II Airport (PDL) is only a short distance from Ponta Delgada town centre, so it’s a quick trip into the city. You can choose for a taxi, which takes about five minutes, or you can take a Shuttle Bus. The Shuttle runs approximately every 20 minutes, go to the main hotels in the city and the tickets can be purchased inside the airport.
