SEB Animal Section Symposium on Intra-specific diversity in aquatic animals

The topic
Intra-specific diversity, a key element of biodiversity, is difficult to study in aquatic animals that often have complex life histories which are not easy to follow underwater. Nonetheless, important advances are being made in understanding their intra-specific diversity at various levels, from population genetics to ecology, ecophysiology and behaviour. This research is of fundamental interest, in particular in terms of evolutionary biology, but is also essential to strategies for sustainable management of valuable resources.
This Animal Symposium builds on a successful Society for Experimental Biology satellite symposium held in Sète in 2008 (http://www.sebiology.org/meetings/Past_Meetings/marseille/Sete.html). The objective is to promote knowledge exchange amongst diverse research fields, towards greater understanding of the links between phenotypes, environments and genotypes in aquatic animals. The programme will comprise both talks and posters. A number of leading scientists will be invited to present their work in the main research fields outlined above, and we also look forward to submissions for talks and posters from the community at large, in particular scientists early in their careers (post-graduate students and post-docs).

The Venue
The Station Méditerranéenne de l’Environnement Littoral is the University of Montpellier’s marine station. Sète is France’s biggest fishing port on the Mediterranean but also a holiday destination in the summer months, with a variety of seaside and cultural attractions.
