Photosynthesis 2007 - Satellite Meetings

Solar Energy and Artificial Photosynthesis

Download meeting flyer and programme for Registration

The satellite meeting will bring together scientists conducting research into natural photosynthesis and on photochemical, photoelectrochemical and photovoltaic systems in order to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and concepts to advance technologies for solar energy conversion. Solar energy is a potential source of enormous quantities of energy needed in the future to power mankind’s technologies.

Organised by Prof Jim Barber (Imperial College, London, j.barber@imperial.ac.uk) and Prof Daniel Nocera, dates of meeting 17th, 18th and 19th July 2007, with a limited discussion meeting on 20th July at the Royal Society, London.

CAM and C4 Metabolism
www.plantsci.cam.ac.uk/c4cam/

A meeting covering advances in the molecular pathways, in relation to their phylogenetic origins. Opportunities for defining the molecular basis to C4 and CAM development and/or circadian control, compared from paleohistorical and ecological persectives.

Organised by Prof Howard Griffiths (University of Cambridge, hg230@cam.ac.uk) and Dr Anne Borland (University of Newcastle, a.m.borland@ncl.ac.uk), projected dates of meeting 15th - 20th July 2007 at the University of Cambridge.

PS007 Light-Harvesting Systems Workshop

19th - 22nd July in Drymen, Scotland.Organised by Prof. Richard Cogdell (University of Glasgow, r.cogdell@bio.gla.ac.uk), Prof. Conrad Mullineaux (Queen Mary University of London, c.mullineaux@qmul.ac.uk), Bob Niederman (USA), Bob Blankenship (USA), Bruno Brobert (FR) and Harry Frank (USA).

VIth International Symposium on Inorganic Carbon Utilisation by Aquatic Photosynthetic Organisms

The sixth CCM meeting, on biophysical photosynthetic CO2 concentrating mechanisms, will be organised byFrancisco Gordillo (gordillo@uma.es), Xavier Neill (fxn@uma.es), Emma Heurtas (emma.huertas@icman.csic.es), Jesus Mercado and John Raven (j.a.raven@dundee.ac.uk) in Malaga, Spain, July 16 - 20 2007, prior to the XIVth Photosynthesis Congress (July 23rd - 28th 2007, Glasgow, Scotland).

State Transitions

Dates: 28-31 July 2007
Venue: Queen Mary, University of London, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS, UK  http://www.qmul.ac.uk/about/campus/mileend/
There is pleasant, inexpensive accommodation on campus.

Organisers:
Conrad Mullineaux (c.mullineaux@qmul.ac.uk, +44 20 7882 7008)
John Allen (j.f.allen@qmul.ac.uk, +44 20 7882 3350)

This will be a small, informal meeting which will act as a forum for exchanging ideas and results on how, and why, oxygenic photosynthesis optimises the activities and interactions of photosystem I and photosystem II.  Contributions are invited from biochemists, biophysicists, molecular biologists, structural biologists, ecologists, physiologists, mathematicians...anyone seeking to understand light states in photosynthesis, and transitions between them.  Anyone interested in taking part, please contact the organisers.

Research Frontiers with Rubisco, the "Elixir of Life" in the Biosphere.

Rothamsted Research 20-21 July 2007

This satellite workshop organised by Prof. Archie Portis (USDA-ARS, University of Illinois) and Prof. Martin Parry (Rothamsted Research) will act as a forum to discuss all aspects of plant research related to CO2 assimilation by Rubisco. The issues will include the evolution, assembly, 3D structure, post translational modification, degradation and the regulation of Rubisco activity in response to environmental factors.  The workshop provides a unique opportunity for integration between molecular, cellular and ecological studies of Rubisco and for researchers from different disciplines to interact and exchange ideas on the latest developments.  Agreed participants include:

Anderson I, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden
Bowes G, University of Florida, USA
Feller U, University of Bern, Switzerland
Houtz R, University of Kentucky, USA
Moreno J, University of Valencia, Spain
Parry MAJ, Rothamsted Research, United Kingdom
Portis AR, USDA, University of Illinois, USA
Sage R, University of Toronto, Canada
Salvucci ME, USDA, Western Cotton Research Laboratory, USA
Spreitzer RJ, University of Nebraska, USA.
Tabita FR, The Ohio State University, USA
von Caemmerer S, Australian National University, Australia
Whitney SM, Australian National University, Australia
Yokota A, Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan.

Anyone interested in offering an oral or poster contribution or otherwise wanting to take part in this discussion should contact martin.parry@bbsrc.ac.uk
