Paying by direct debit

WHAT IS A DIRECT DEBIT?

Direct debit is a way to make an automatic regular payment and is available to those who have a UK bank account. The SEB sends you a notification by post at least 10 days before the payment will be collected from your account so you know when and how much money will be collected.

BENEFITS OF PAYING BY DIRECT DEBIT

A direct debit with SEB means that your membership always stays up to date as, every year, your fees are automatically collected from your UK bank account.

Save 10% on your membership fees

As a thank-you from us, when you take out a direct debit with SEB, we’ll give you a 10% discount each year starting with your next membership fees.

Ensure membership continuity

And as a direct debit helps your continuous membership to accumulate, you become eligible for extra benefits from us:

  • Full members qualify for loyal member status if you have been with us for three consecutive years. This entitles you to special registration rates at our Annual Meeting. Paying a direct debit means your membership never lapses and you don’t have to start again to accumulate three continuous years.
  • Student and early career scientist members can apply for travel grants of up to £500 when you are at least in your second consecutive year of membership with SEB. If your membership lapses, you will have to start again to have a full year’s membership behind you before you can apply for grants. But with a direct debit payment you will never have to worry about this.

As no card details are required, a direct debit is one of the most secure methods of payment.

HOW DO I SET UP A DIRECT DEBIT WITH SEB?

To set up a direct debit with us, complete a direct debit mandate and post it to us at least two months before your renewal date. Please leave the reference number section blank and we’ll fill that part in.

WHAT IF MY MEMBERSHIP TYPE CHANGES?

You don’t need to change your direct debit if your membership category changes. The renewal notification that the SEB sends you will include any changes in membership category as well as any new fees.

CAN I CANCEL A DIRECT DEBIT?

You can cancel a direct debit at any time just by contacting your bank. Also, you are covered by a Direct Debit Guarantee that will give you a full and immediate refund of any money taken from your account after you cancelled a direct debit.
