Meet Prof. Subhash - SEB Ambassador for India!
By Sabina Baba
M. C. Subhash Peter
Professor of Zoology (University of Kerala, India)
Subash obtained his Ph.D in Zoology from the University of Kerala in 1989. For his research work on thyroid hormones and stress response in fish, he was awarded D.Sc degree from the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands in 2007.
Currently he is Professor of Zoology and serves as the Dean of Science and Director of Centre for Evolutionary and Integrative Biology (CEIB) of the University of Kerala, India. He has successfully presented evidence for a thyroid hormone (TH)–driven sodium pump regulation in mitochondria-rich cells of fish gills where it promotes osmotic competence in varied environments. His review on the role of THs in stress response in fish was one of the hottest articles of 2011 (Peter, 2011, GCE). Recently he has conceptualized a novel phenomenon of ease and ease response as adaptive mechanism in fish (Peter, 2013 GCE).
As an editor of General and Comparative Endocrinology journal (GCE) since 2008 and the editor of Stress Physiology book of Springer (2015) he manages science of life. Many international symposia and workshops on Comparative Endocrinology, Stress Physiology and Integrative Biology have been organized by him.
“Being passionate about the evolutionary and integrative aspects of life processes I am keen to promote the activities of SEB in India.”
