Julian Hibberd

Photosynthesis and Metabolism Group Co-Convenor

Julian’s research aims to understand how C4 photosynthesis operates and to provide insight into the molecular mechanisms driving its evolution. Major emphasis has been placed on defining the ancestral role of proteins that are co-opted into the pathway, as well as understanding how the regulation of genes associated with C4 photosynthesis alters. The work impacts on our understanding of the most productive plants on the planet, provides insight into mechanisms underpinning the compartmentation of gene expression associated with multicellular eukaryotes, and also the molecular events associated with the evolution of a highly complex trait.
