PLANT BIOLOGY

Katherine Denby

Plant Biotic Interactions Group Convenor

Katherine is a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of York, and also Academic Director of the N8 AgriFood Resilience programme. Prior to this she held a joint position in the School of Life Sciences and Warwick Systems Biology Centre at the University of Warwick, where she developed systems approaches to elucidating plant stress responses. She is particularly interested in how plants respond to pathogen infection and how the regulatory networks underlying the immune response are wired to fine-tune defence against specific pathogens. Her research combines experimental data with mathematical modelling and computational biology to unravel the complexities of these networks, predict how to re-wire them for enhanced resistance, and how these signaling networks integrate multiple environmental inputs. She is also working to apply systems approaches to enhance crop improvement strategies.
