SEB Antwerp 2021

SEB+ Sessions

  • Hamid Khan
  • Ilaina Khairulzaman

The SEB is very pleased to be partnering with Sense about Science for our Careers Workshops at Antwerp 2021.

Sense about Science is an independent charity that champions the public interest in sound science, and ensures evidence is recognised in public life and policy making. Their workshops encourage early career researchers to make their voices heard in public debates about science, and cover a range of key issues from science policy, media representation, peer review, to public engagement.

The trainers facilitating the session will be:

Dr Hamid Khan - Senior Partnerships coordinator

Hamid has a PhD in nanoscience from the University of Southampton, where he also completed a Master’s in chemistry. He joined Sense about Science in January 2019 as the public engagement coordinator and is now senior partnerships coordinator. He also heads the Voice of Young Science  (VoYS) network in the UK, a dynamic network of early career researchers across Europe, committed to playing an active role in public discussions about science. As such, Hamid is the first point of contact for the thousands of early career researchers and volunteers in the network who want to stand up for science. He chairs the ‘Standing up for Science’ workshops around the UK, and also contributes to the VoYS Peer Review training workshops.

Ilaina Khairulzaman - Head of international public engagement, training and marketing

Ilaina has been a member of the Sense about Science team since October 2017. Ilaina has a research masters in immunology from Trinity College Dublin and is trained as a bioinformatician. After a year of clicking away on her computer looking at dolphin genes, she realised she much preferred spreading the word of science than she did doing the science. Ilaina works on building the VoYS network in the EU, and encourages early career researchers to start standing up for science, as well as coordinating events and campaigns across the EU.
