Overview of the Research at Scripps Institution of Oceanography:

 

SIO is a world-renowned center of oceanographic, atmospheric, biological, and solid earth research with approximately 200 principal investigators leading research programs. SIO is part of the University of California, San Diego, which is one of the top research universities in the world.

Overview of the Assistant professor position

Sio seeks outstanding candidates for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position pursuing innovative research activities in one or both of the following areas:

(i) physical processes occurring at the air-sea interface, with a demonstrated expertise in sea-going observations preferred; and
(ii) geophysical fluid dynamics and other theoretical research related to oceanic phenomena. Both of these areas have been identified as high-priority long-term needs for the SIO Physical Oceanography faculty.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong extramurally supported research program that complements existing physical oceanography research at SIO. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to teaching the Physical Oceanography curricula for graduate and undergraduate students.

A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physical oceanography or a relevant field is required at the time of appointment. Strong potential for development of a vigorous, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program and associated scholarly impact, together with evidence of service and broader contributions to diversity, leadership activities, and other items that will contribute positively to departmental welfare are preferred
