Overview of the project:

The Department of Biology, Faculty of Science at York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a teaching-stream tenure-track position in Physiology at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream to commence July 1, 2021. The successful candidate will develop, teach, and enhance the Department's current undergraduate courses in Physiology with an emphasis in Animal Physiology. A Ph.D. in Biological Science (in the field of Physiology with strong knowledge of comparative animal physiology) is required by the time of application. Applicants should have experience in teaching science and biology at the university level. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or clear potential for excellence in teaching university-level courses and a strong commitment to evidence-based pedagogy and student success. through: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and a record of pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference The successful candidate will also demonstrate the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to Physiology teaching, learning and program The successful applicant is expected to teach animal physiology-related courses at all levels. The successful candidate should have experience teaching large classes as well as experience teaching with different delivery formats (e.g. lecture, blended, online, or flipped). Experience in physiology-based research as well as directing laboratories (e.g., lab operations, training of TAs, liaising with technical staff) and laboratory development would be an asset. Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative approach to undergraduate teaching, and the ability to work effectively as part of a teaching team and within the department. This position includes service. Applicants should also provide evidence of contributions to service (administrative and committee work), outreach, and pertinent activities in and outside academia.
