Overview of the project:

The Department of Biology, Geology, and Environmental Sciences is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in Microbiology. The successful candidate is expected to teach upper division undergraduate lecture/laboratory courses in microbiology, basic microbiology courses for nursing and veterinary technology students, and a variety of undergraduate courses which may include: Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Cell Physiology, Immunology, Parasitology, and courses in their area of expertise.

The successful applicant must be capable of and committed to effective teaching, scholarly growth, and include involvement with departmental, college-wide, and university committees. They should have experience with program assessment and working with diverse populations and will be responsible for developing an externally funded research program involving students. In accordance with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and APSCUF, the successful applicant might be assigned to perform work at off-campus sites, in the evening/weekend and/or provide instruction through distance education. 


Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: In order to be a leading applicant in this search, in addition to the aforementioned requirements, the applicant minimally must be fluent in the English language, able to communicate well, experienced in program-level assessment of student learning and the effective use of innovative curricular approaches that are student-centered, inquiry-based, and hands-on oriented. The candidate must also be able to demonstrate outstanding potential for excellence in teaching through a successful interview and /or classroom demonstration. 

Minimum of Education and Training: A Ph.D. in Microbiology or related field is required by the time of employment, and college teaching experience is strongly preferred.
