Researcher in Plant Pathology
Epagri - Agricultural Research Company
State of Santa Catarina, Brazil

Cristina is currently a researcher on plant pathology at Epagri, the Agricultural Research Company of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil, where she started working in August 2015. Her research interest is on bacteria transmitted by insect vectors and infected plant vascular tissue, such as phytoplasma and liberibacter and has been working on this topic since her PhD.

Cristina was awarded her PhD in 2010 from University of São Paulo (USP, Brazil) after which she continued to be a post-doctoral researcher at University of Sao Paulo and at the John Innes Centre (United Kingdom).

She has been a member of the Society for Experimental Biology since 2014 and has already taken part in two of our annual conferences, presenting her research and enjoying networking with international delegates. It was at our Prague 2015 conference that we approached Cristina to ask if she would like to be one of our Ambassadors in Brazil and she kindly accepted to help!

“I met Sabina (the SEB Membership Manager) at the Annual Conference in Prague and it was very interesting to learn more about the Society and their aims. When she explained that SEB was trying to reach more scientists in Brazil and was looking for local representatives to help spread the word I was really glad to help and act as a local ambassador. I personally find that the Society offers a great forum for networking and presenting your research and is especially supportive of young scientists. I will therefore aim to make the Society known in Brazil and help grow the SEB network further."
