Continued Professional Development (CPD) Points

SEB hold CPD-accredited events across the year. These count towards maintaining your status on Science Council registers and for Royal Society of Biology certificates.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points are used in various professions to track ongoing learning and skill development. CPD schemes are aimed to keep professionals up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, regulations, and advancements. Bioscience professionals seeking to uphold their status on the Science Council registers below are required to provide an annual record of their ongoing professional development:

  • Registered Science Technician (RSciTech)
  • Registered Scientist (RSci)
  • Chartered Scientist (CSci)
  • Chartered Science Teacher (CSciTeach)
  • Chartered Biologist (CBiol)
  • UK Register of Toxicologists (UKRT)

Professionals typically need to keep a record of their CPD activities, including details such as the date, duration, and nature of the activity, as well as the number of CPD points awarded. This record may need to be submitted periodically to the relevant accrediting body or professional association for verification. A helpful template for recording CPD activities for Science Council accreditation is available at the following link: CPD-Recording-Template-2021.docx (live.com)

Professionals who are also members of the Royal Society of Biology (RSB) can record their CPD directly through the RSB website, accessible via mySociety. Upon accumulating more than 50 CPD points within a year, the RSB awards a certificate that is recognised and accepted by the Science Council.

To further our aim of promoting research and education in the field of experimental biology, SEB offers CPD opportunities for biologists through events such as our conferences, workshops, and training courses throughout the year. Events which have points associated with them have been approved by RSB for the purpose of CPD. Details on SEB activities that are eligible for CPD points can be found on each events booking page. If attendees need evidence of their participation in one of our events, they can request a certificate by sending an email to [email protected]. Please include your name, the email address used for registration, and specify the date and title of the event or workshop you attended.
