Missions

This work is a continuation of an ERC project carried out in Dr Christophe Maurel's group at the Institute for Plant Sciences of Montpellier (IPSiM) (INRAE/CNRS/Institut Agro/Univ. Montpellier).
The aim is to describe a new metabolic control mechanism of water transport in roots. This mechanism has been observed in various species following the identification of a new gene controlling root hydraulics. It reveals unexpected links between cellular metabolism and hydraulic processes, via signaling mechanisms that remain to be elucidated. The researcher's specific objective will be to characterize the molecular and cellular basis of these mechanisms and to determine their significance in maintaining the water status of plants.

Activity

The postdoctoral researcher's main task will be to investigate, at the molecular and cellular levels, a new mechanism regulating root water transport in plants. This mechanism will be studied in both Arabidopsis and maize, utilizing the complementary genetic resources available in these two species. The host laboratory's unique expertise in root hydraulic phenotyping and the molecular physiology of aquaporins will be essential for implementing this project.

Your Profil

Skills

Candidates must hold a PhD and have demonstrated an aptitude for research through high-level publications. More specifically, we are looking for a highly motivated, independent scientist with a solid background in plant physiology and molecular genetics. Previous experience in metabolism and/or stress physiology would be an advantage. A good command of English and team spirit are also essential.

Your Work Environment

The laboratory and host team have a strong reputation in the study of plant roots (https://www1.montpellier.inra.fr/wp-inra/ipsim/en/ ). Growing facilities and equipment for root hydraulic phenotyping are available in the laboratory.
