Vaidurya Sahi Pratap (PhD)

Postdoctoral Researcher (Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic)

Vaidurya is working as a postdoctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Plant Cell Biology and Biotechnology at the Department of Experimental Plant Biology, Charles University in Prague.

His research is focused on understanding the role of actin cytoskeleton in plant development.

Vaidurya completed his Masters in Plant Breeding and Genetics in India, and went on to complete his Ph.D in Molecular Biology at Ehime University, Japan on a Japanese Government Fellowship. During his Ph.D studies he gained first-hand experience in molecular techniques and microscopy.

After his Ph.D he briefly worked in South Korea as a postdoc before finally moving to his present position in Prague.

“Since my childhood plants have fascinated me and to date they continue to drive my passion for research. Apart from developmental and molecular biology of plants, I have interests in the philosophy of science, dogs and biophysics of plant movements. Darwin wrote about fifteen thousand letters to his contemporaries and that is how he did his networking. Fortunately, today we have SEB as forum for networking and we meet with other scientists regularly at their conferences. I became an active member of SEB during my PhD and also served as the SEB student representative for a year at the time. In my new role as Ambassador of SEB, I wish to bring together more scientists and extend to them the knowledge about the benefits of SEB as a forum for networking.”
