This symposium is dedicated to the exploration of bioenergetics across different biological scales, from the intricacies of mitochondrial processes to the broader scope of whole-organism performance, and from cellular mechanisms to ecosystem dynamics. It will serve as a platform for discussing how energy metabolism drives adaptation in response to environmental changes, with a particular emphasis on the particular ecological context.
We have defined four key focus areas:
- Ecophysiology and metabolism, from mitochondria to whole-animal: understanding how metabolic processes at the mitochondrial level scale up to affect whole-animal physiology and performance.
- Interdisciplinary approaches of mitochondrial bioenergetics: study mitochondrial function in several research areas
- Biochemistry, structure, and functions of mitochondria: how these parameters are related to mitochondrial physiology
- Mitochondrial function in extreme environments: dealing with environmental changes through adjustments in mitochondrial metabolism
