Leading and supporting others for ECRs and New PIs

Cost

This event is free for SEB members. Non-members will be charged the cost price of £20 per person.

About the session

Leadership and management are much more than simply setting a direction and getting things done.

To be an effective leader or a manager, you need to be able to understand, motivate, inspire and appreciate the people that you work with (and for) in order to achieve the best outcomes.

In this interactive workshop, we will explore the role that emotional intelligence plays in the context of leadership, management and supervision. Participants will gain an introductory understanding of emotional intelligence and how it can be developed and harnessed to get the best out of ourselves and those we support, lead or manage.

Following this workshop participants will:

• Understand what is meant by ‘emotional intelligence and the different competencies and skills that underpin it.
• Have explored a range of leadership styles and appreciate the scenarios and contexts in which they can be effective.
• Have an appreciation of how emotionally intelligent approaches can support ourselves and others in identifying and achieving goals and recognising success.
• Have practical experience in supporting a fellow participant with emotionally intelligent mentoring & coaching conversations.

Workshop structure

This is a 3 hour live and interactive workshop with plenty of breaks throughout.
