The Plant Journal: Research Highlights Editor role
The Plant Journal (TPJ) is looking to appoint two Research Highlights Editors to join the Editorial Team. This is an exciting opportunity for plant scientists who have a passion for science writing and enjoy communicating scientific research.
The Research Highlights Editors will be responsible for writing a short commentary on a selected article from each issue of TPJ. This is part of the journal’s commitment to promote the best papers published.
The Research Highlights Editors are responsible for the following:
- Working with the Editorial Team to evaluate published papers in TPJ and to select papers on which to write commentaries. TPJ is published every two weeks, meaning editors write one article per month.
- To write a short commentary article highlighting key findings, and explaining the importance and significance of the selected paper.
- Conducting appropriate research and interviews/email correspondence with selected authors where appropriate in the preparation of each commentary.
- To request cover images from the authors of the highlighted paper and liaise with the Production team to select a cover image for the issue.
- To correspond with the SEB communication manager and write monthly commentaries for the SEB newsletter based on the Research Highlight articles, meaning one commentary per editor every two months.
If you are an active plant scientist (with a PhD in the subject area), have some publication experience and good writing skills, then this role could be suitable for you. The Research Highlights Editor will be supported by TPJ Editorial Team and the Editorial Office.
Please note we are recruiting for two Research Highlights editors but envisage one editor starting a few months earlier than the other to enable some overlap with one of our experienced editors.
TPJ is published by Wiley in collaboration with the Society of Experimental Biology and provides a dynamic forum for the ever-growing international plant sciences research community. The role is for an initial period of a year commencing in 2026 and carries an annual honorarium. Research Highlights editors also receive invitations to the annual Editorial Board meetings. For more information or for further discussion of the role, please contact Rosie Trice (Wiley) at [email protected].
Applications should be submitted by email to Rosie Trice ([email protected]).
Please submit your CV together with a short covering letter outlining your suitability for the role. Please also submit a piece of writing (max. 500 words) highlighting the key points and significance of the following paper: Plant ADH1 promoter acts as an H3K27me3-associated hyper-long cold-responsive promoter, Shimizu et al. 2025 https://doi.org/10.1111/tpj.70248. DO NOT contact the authors of this publication. If you use AI tools in the preparation of your application, please indicate which tools and how you have used them.
The closing date for applications is 24th November 2025.
