CP talk: Comparison of the cardiovascular effects of immobilization with three different drug combinations in free-ranging African lions

Ashleigh did her undergraduate and MSc studies in the Department of Zoology and Entomology at the University of Pretoria.

Following her Master’s studies, she worked as a field guide for a few years before moving back into research as the Assistant Research coordinator on Welgevonden Game Reserve and a consultant research biologist in the private sector.

She began her PhD on improving immobilisation protocols in lions in the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria in 2021, which has recently been completed. At present, she is a member of the Centre for Veterinary Wildlife Research at the University of Pretoria and the Brain Function Research Group at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Her research interests centre around carnivore physiology, wildlife conservation physiology and the impacts of disease and climate change on wildlife populations.
