Did You Spot the Signs of Spring?

Maybe for you, spring starts when the days lengthen and the snowdrops first peek above the ground. Or maybe spring for you is when iridescent bluebells carpet the woods and buzzing bumblebees come out of hibernation?
For the Royal Society of Biology and the Field Studies Council, there are ten signs of spring they asked YOU to report. 2025 was the second year they ran the survey, with nearly 2,000 sightings by wildlife watchers across Britain, from London to the northern Isles. This helped people connect with nature and, using the results, they created an interactive map and report. These important contributions help conservationists track how the seasons are changing year over year.

“We’re beginning to see interesting patterns emerge when comparing to last year’s data and these year-on-year comparisons will become increasingly valuable over time,” says Dan Asaw from the Field Studies Council.
“We are grateful to everyone who took part. […] The team is already planning for 2026 when we aim to make participation even more accessible.”
So be sure to look out for the Signs of Spring survey in 2026!
