SEB is excited  to launch our “Influential Black Biologists” lesson plan for schools.

Part of the SEB Black History Month initiatives, the lesson plan outlines a series of activities that teachers can use and educate children on the influences that the Black community had on biology. Activities include researching inspirational Black biologists from a suggested list and writing a news piece about them, twitter profiles and creating top trump cards. It also provides resources to aid in discussions about diversity and inclusion as well as career resources.

Our aim is to encourage pupils to learn about influential Black biologists who advanced their field and added to scientific knowledge, to help them understand the importance of diversity in science and to provide inspiration for future biologists.

We encourage teachers and educators to use this pack in creating lesson plans for their pupils and to share it widely.

This is just the beginning of our plans to showcase and support the contributions of the Black community to the field of biology, and is part of our wider ongoing work and commitment to promoting diversity  in  biology.
