For this year's diversity dinner, our guest speaker will be SEB Diversity Grant winner Emily May Armstrong. She will be presenting a talk entitled "Fostering Inclusive Environments in Molecular Biology"

Dr Emily May Armstrong is a portfolio-career plant scientist and postdoctoral research associate, currently based between the Universities of Bristol and Glasgow. Currently, Emily manages the 100 Plant Science Questions project at the University of Bristol, and is a small SEB grant holder at the University of Glasgow. Emily's SEB funded grant explores creation of a proactive-inclusive environment for disabled researchers in molecular biology research spaces. This ranges from creating paired-training and support resources for researchers and PIs, to reimagining laboratory organisation, to supporting creation of adapted protocols. The inclusive-space package developed as the result of this grant will be easily rolled out across other institutions. This work is especially important as the global research community realises the impact of long-COVID on researchers, and is the first of its kind in the UK.

Later in the evening, we will also have entertainment from The Montpellier Jazz Band, a professional jazz & swing band based in Montpellier, France. The Montpellier Jazz Band offers unique and intense jazz music through a repertoire that, while remaining faithful to traditional jazz, reveals undeniable originality.
