Professor Dame Ijeoma Uchegbu on Desert Island Discs

Professor Dame Ijeoma Uchegbu, last year’s SEB Cell Section Plenary Lecturer, appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs this weekend — sharing the soundtrack of her life and her remarkable scientific journey.

The Society of Experimental Biology is delighted to share that Professor Dame Ijeoma Uchegbu, who delivered the Cell Section Plenary Lecture at the SEB Conference in Prague 2024, was recently featured on the iconic BBC Radio 4 programme Desert Island Discs.

The show, which invites prominent figures to reflect on their lives and careers through music, hosted Professor Uchegbu over the weekend.

Reflecting on the experience, Professor Uchegbu said:

I couldn’t quite believe it when I got the note inviting me to be a guest on Desert Island Discs. It is such an iconic programme, and one I listen to regularly. I was a little nervous going into the recording at Broadcasting House but Lauren Laverne, the programme’s presenter, was absolutely fabulous. She made me relax right from the start. I will treasure the moment that I got asked for as long as I live

Dame Ijeoma Uchegbu is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience at University College London and President of Wolfson College, Cambridge.
Her research on drug delivery systems and her advocacy for equitable access to medicine have made her a leading voice in science and innovation.
