The PEPG Field Techniques Workshop 2025 took place on 7–12 September 2025 at the Quinta de São Pedro Field Study Centre in Portugal.
Across the week, participants enjoyed an inspiring programme of lectures, practical training, and networking opportunities designed to advance plant physiology research and strengthen community links.

Here, we revisit two highlights of the programme:

Day One opened with a welcome from Amanda Cavanagh, PEPG Convener, followed by expert-led lectures on leaf gas exchange (Florian Busch), chlorophyll fluorescence (Erik Murchie), plant water relations (Kathy Steppe), roots and soil interactions (Hanna Schneider), and ecosystem and remote sensing approaches (Carl Bernacchi).
The afternoon featured a lively “Meet the Manufacturers” session and the first hands-on practical, before closing with a social dinner and Wine Trail.

Day Two continued with interactive practice sessions alongside manufacturers, where participants engaged directly with cutting-edge field techniques.
The afternoon turned to data processing and handling, as well as combined approaches to gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence (Tracy Lawson) and chlorophyll fluorescence and P700 (Katharina Siebke). The day concluded with a successful poster session and flash talks, sparking dynamic discussions and community engagement.
