About the grant

Join our “party month” in April 2023 and plan a special celebration event at your own institute.

The SEB Birthday Fund can provide up to £500 per event to assist with the independent organization of a scientific meeting, networking event, single lecture, or small events such as postgraduate research days to help celebrate the SEB centenary year.

Applications for sponsorship of relevant scientific meetings or events that are cross-institutional and regional and student-focused will be looked upon more favorably.

If you are stuck for inspiration we have provided some ideas below, but this list is not exhaustive so feel free to get creative!

Your SEB centenary celebration could include:

  • An invited experimental biology speaker and drinks reception
  • A research day
  • PhD Student networking and social event
  • A celebration of the work of SEB members in your department
  • An SEB or experimental biologist networking event
  • A laboratory tour or public engagement event
  •  A community outreach event focused on experimental biology research
  •  A diversity initiative or talk
  • An event aimed at making connections between your research department and undergraduate students in the school
  • An event to look back at progress in biological research over past 100 years

The applications for the SEB Birthday Fund are now closed!

We are excited to see all the celebrations that will take place in April or May of 2023. We will update this page with more information about them all soon.
