SEB ANNUAL CONFERENCE FLORENCE 2026: LAST WEEKS TO SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT
We would like to remind you that abstract submission for the SEB Annual Conference Florence 2026 is still open.
All abstracts for the Annual Conference must be submitted via our online abstract system.
Abstracts can be submitted for any of the scientific sessions at the Annual Conference.
The abstract submission deadline is Midnight (GMT) on Friday 6 March 2026.

SEB AWARDS

Young Scientists Award Session (YSAS)
The YSAS is designed to highlight the work of rising stars in the fields of animal, plant and cell biology. Participants (postgraduates and post-doctoral researchers within five years of completing their PhD) can compete for top prizes and visibility among an international scientific audience.
How it Works:

Submit your abstract through the SEB conference system by 6 March 2026.

Indicate on submission that you want to be considered for the YSAS.

Finalists will be invited to present their research at the Florence meeting.

Winners will be announced at the Awards Dinner on 9 July 2026.
Prizes include:

£400 for 1st place (each section)

Two runner-up prizes of £100 each (per section)

Irene Manton Poster Prize
The Irene Manton Award celebrates outstanding scientific posters presented at the conference. It’s open to both students and early-career researchers in all SEB sections: Animal, Cell, Plant, and Outreach, Education & Diversity (OED).
What to do:

Submit your abstract and select the option to be considered for the Irene Manton Prize by 6 March 2026.

A PDF version of your final poster must then be uploaded by 21 May 2026 for judging at the event.
Winners will be announced at the SEB Awards Dinner on 9 July 2026.
KEY CONFERENCE CHANGES
We would like to highlight some important updates for the SEB Annual Conference in Florence, designed to support the Society’s strategic transition to Open Access while maintaining a high-quality experience for delegates:

The conference will now run for 3 days instead of 3.5 days.

Speaker arrangements and audio-visual costs have been adjusted to reduce expenses.
-
The conference subsidy will be gradually reduced, but SEB continues to cover a substantial portion of the ticket price to ensure accessibility.

Scientific quality, networking, and inclusivity remain a top priority.

The SEB President's Medals are awarded annually to young scientists of outstanding merit. The awards are presented at the Annual Conference of the Society.

TRAVEL GRANTS
Please note that SEB are able to offer a number of travel grant opportunities for student and early career scientist members of the SEB to attend the SEB Conference.
COMPANY OF BIOLOGISTS TRAVEL GRANT
You can apply here for the Company of Biologists travel grant on a quarterly basis and the application deadline for a CoB grant to attend "SEB Conference 2026" is 31 March 2026.
To apply for a SEB Conference travel grant, please fill in the Travel grant application form by 31 May 2026.
