Mission

We are dedicated to providing robust monitoring equipment for use in demanding environments.

Vision

Our objective is to become a worldwide leader in the development and production of small, reliable and robust measuring instruments.

Values

  • Reliability – We deliver reliable products and are a reliable partner and colleague
  • Honesty – We are honest towards our customers, partners and each other
  • Ambition – We are ambitious in our work and innovation

Our History

Star-Oddi was founded in Iceland in 1985. From the start we have been a leading developer and manufacturer of small sensors, data loggers and technology for environmental and life sciences.

We have over 30 years of experience in making small, performing loggers for four main markets:

  • Underwater environments and subsea gear
  • Aquatic animals
  • Wildlife and laboratory animals
  • Production quality control

We are committed to providing long lasting loggers in the smallest possible sizes, never compromising on reliability.

The story behind the name

Oddi Helgason, nicknamed Star-Oddi, or Stjörnu-Oddi in Icelandic, was an Icelandic viking who lived in the north of Iceland. Star-Oddi was known for his skills in astronomy and spent much of his time analysing the movement of the sun, moon and stars. Star-Oddi‘s observations made it possible for the vikings to extend their sailing period from the short summer months.

Royal Society Publishing Royal Society Publishing

Since the first issue of Philosophical Transactions in 1665, publishing has been at the heart of the Royal Society's mission to recognise, promote and support excellence in science, and to encourage the development and use of science, for the benefit of humanity.

Our ten leading journals provide broad coverage of all science, specialise in cross-disciplinary research, and are committed to high quality, open and ethical publishing. As a not-for-profit society publisher, the income we generate goes back into supporting and progressing the global scientific community by funding the activities of the Society.

In 2026, researchers can publish open access in the Royal Society’s eight subscription journals without having to pay an article processing charge (APC) due to the adoption of Subscribe to Open. This includes Journal of the Royal Society Interface, which publishes cross-disciplinary research at the interface between the physical and life sciences.

Pyroscience Pyroscience

PyroScience_Logo_RGB.jpg

PyroScience offers cutting-edge opto-chemical sensor solutions based on compact stand- alone (FireSting-GO2), PC-operated lab (FireSting-O2/-PRO) or underwater fiber-optic devices (AquapHOx loggers & transmitters). They work with a great variety of optical oxygen, pH and temperature sensors for application in gas, water and aqueous & semi-solid samples. The great variety of optical sensor heads include microsensors, miniprobes, and diverse smart contactless sensors for different oxygen and pH ranges. Pre-sterilised and pre-calibrated sensors are ideal for measurements in cultivation approaches, whereas fast-responding fiber- based probes, as well as flow cells and sensor spots with contactless read-out are well approved for respiration and photosynthesis rates determination. Now we also offer a 96- channel reader FirePlate-O2, e.g. for 96-well plates with integrated oxygen sensors, for application in small-scale cell cultivation and respiration rate measurements. Find the best sensor solution for your application in experimental biology.

The Journal of Thermal Biology

Screenshot 2026-05-28 134100.png

The Journal of Thermal Biology publishes research that advances a mechanistic and organism-centred understanding of how temperature influences humans and animals. The principal focus of the journal is the physiological, biophysical, behavioural, and evolutionary mechanisms underlying thermal biology and thermoregulation, spanning levels of biological organisation from cells to whole organisms.

Contributions should provide clear insight into thermal processes, constraints, and responses of organisms themselves, including heat transfer, tolerance, regulation, and performance across thermal environments. Studies are expected to move beyond purely descriptive or correlative patterns to elucidate mechanisms, processes, or testable biological principles relevant to thermal biology. Moreover, it is also expected that studies are focused on thermo-physiological outcomes.

Aralab designs and manufactures controlled‑environment chambers that help biologists run repeatable, data‑rich experiments—since 1985. From compact reach‑ins to large walk‑in rooms, Aralab BIO solutions deliver precise and stable control of temperature, humidity, airflow and light for plant, insect and microbiology research.

Typical applications include plant growth and phenotyping, seed germination and stress studies (heat/cold, drought cycles), photobiology with programmable light spectra and photoperiods, insect rearing (mosquitoes, butterflies, bees) and behavioral studies, as well as sample storage and stability work for life‑science labs. Chambers can be configured with full‑spectrum dimmable LED lighting, high‑humidity performance, CO2 control, adjustable shelving and insect‑safe interiors, enabling reliable conditions from short trials to long multi‑season experiments.

Aralab’s ClimaPlus Web platform provides multi‑user remote access, scheduling, alarms and long‑term data logging, helping teams monitor experiments, document methods and ensure auditability. Each system is factory‑calibrated and supported by installation, training and responsive after‑sales service through Aralab’s global partner network.

Used by universities, research institutes, botanical collections and ag‑biotech companies worldwide, Aralab chambers are built for accuracy, uniformity and reproducibility—so experimental biology can focus on discovery, not on maintaining the climate. The Society for Experimental Biology has a portfolio of five journals. By publishing in an SEB journal, you can be assured of a supportive and ethical publishing experience. The SEB’s income from these journals is reinvested into the research community through the Society’s diverse activities. The Society is a signatory of DORA, supports open access and open data, and provides benefits when its members publish in SEB journals. The SEB journals also run a range of initiatives to support early career researchers including fellowships, editorial internships, and paper prizes. SEB journal staff will be available throughout the Conference to answer any questions you may have about publishing in the Society’s journals. They will also be running a workshop titled ‘Peer Review: first steps, best practices & future challenges’ so please come along and get involved.

Fundación Instituto de Biología Integrativa

Logo iBio 1.png 1

At the Millennium Institute for Integrative Biology (iBio), we work synergistically to discover how plants and fungi respond to environmental (abiotic) and biological (biotic) signals, and how these interactions unfold in space and time in a changing world. We conduct research across four Chilean universities: Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, University of Santiago, Andrés Bello University, and Universidad Mayor.
